The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has issued a statement addressing recent media claims regarding the computation of customs duties and other import taxes on vehicles. According to the GRA, such duties are not calculated in foreign currency, contrary to recent media reports.
In a statement released to the press, the GRA explained that customs duties and other import taxes on vehicles are computed in Ghanaian cedis, in accordance with the country’s tax laws. The authority emphasized that all import transactions are converted into Ghanaian cedis at the prevailing exchange rate before duties and taxes are applied.
The GRA’s clarification comes after recent media reports suggested that customs duties and taxes on vehicles were being calculated in foreign currency, leading to concerns among importers and the general public. The authority has assured the public that all computations are done in accordance with the law and that there has been no change in the procedure for calculating customs duties and taxes on vehicles.
The GRA has urged the public to disregard any information suggesting otherwise and to contact the authority directly for clarification on any tax-related matters. The authority has also reminded importers and the general public of the need to comply with tax laws and regulations to avoid any penalties or sanctions.
